Ice Skating: Winter Figure Skating Camp

US Figure Skating (USFS) test session

In conjunction with the winter camp, the Copper Country Skating Academy will hold a low level test session on Sunday, January 8, at 3:30 p.m. Partnered dances through Bronze can be tested. Moves in the Field and Freestyle at the Pre-Preliminary and Preliminary levels can be tested. Solo dances through Gold can be tested. Skaters not registered for our winter camp are welcome to participate in the test session as well.

Test registration will be available by December 1, 2016 on EntryEeze. Test registrations must be submitted no later than noon on January 7, 2017. Late fees will apply after that time, and applications will only be accepted on a space available basis. Only online applications will be accepted.

Session Guidelines

Sessions are open to skaters of all levels. Private lessons for Freestyle, Moves, and Dance sessions will be provided by coaches contracted by Michigan Tech. Skaters must indicate on their registration form the number of lessons requested and their first, second, and third choice for coaches. Coaching assignments will first be made based on the order of the registrations received, but all requests may not be able to be honored regarding the amount of lessons and coaching desired.

Professional Coaching Staff

Coaching fees are based on 15-minute private lessons and are paid at the end of the weekend, directly to your coach. Skaters must indicate on their registration form the number of lessons requested and their first, second, and third choice for coaches in each discipline. Coaching assignments will be made on a first-come first-served basis.

Igor Yaroshenko, Guest Dance Partner/Coach—$24

Igor is a two-time Olympian and Goodwill Games champion in Ice Dancing. He also holds a gold medal in Moves in the Field. He holds a B.S. of Sport Science and Coaching and is a National, International and Junior World Coach. Igor has been teaching Dance, Moves in the Field, Power Stroking, and Off-Ice Conditioning since 1998.

Marcie Kierpiec, Guest Coach—$20

Marcie is a Junior National Coach at the University of Delaware Training Center and Staff Professional at the Skating Club of Wilmington. She has to her credit US and Canadian Gold Dances, Senior and Junior International Dances, Novice Freestyle, Silver Free Dance, 6th Figure, and her Intermediate Pair. Marcie coaches through Senior Moves and specializes in Choreography, Dance, Moves and Power Hockey. Marcie holds a BA in French from Michigan State University and an MA in French. She has 28 years coaching experience and is currently pursuing a degree in Exercise Science at West Chester University in Pennsylvania.

Elena Rodrigues, Guest Coach —$15

Elena Rodrigues is a USFS Triple Gold Medalist in Moves, Dance, and Freestyle. She is an ISU Junior World, ISU Four Continents, and Winter University Games competitor. Elena earned a BS in Kinesiology and Health from Miami University with a double minor in Coaching and Management and Organizations where she competed for both the Miami University Synchronized Skating program and also the Intercollegiate Freestyle Team.

Jessica Comfort—$12

Jessica is on the Copper Country Skating Academy professional coaching staff. She has earned her USFS Gold Medal in Dance, Intermediate Freestyle, and Novice Moves in the Field. She has 18 years of active coaching experience including Basic Skills through Junior Moves and enjoys teaching dance and choreography the most.

Jennifer Bukovich—$12.50

Jennifer Bukovich has been involved in figure skating for 32 years. She has tested through her Adult Freestyle, Adult Gold, Adult Moves, Junior Moves, Pre-Gold Dance, and Novice Freestyle. During her skating career, she competed in several states, which included regional competitions. Jennifer has 17 years of coaching experience and can teach through the Gold levels in all disciplines.

Sherry Karnosky—$10

Currently coaching for the Copper Country Skating Academy, Sherry has been skating for 37 years and teaching professionally for the past 22 years. Along with coaching, Sherry was an USFS trial and appointed Judge for eight years. She has a BS and MS degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and teaching certificates gained in Wisconsin, New York, and Michigan. Areas of expertise include the compulsory dances from Preliminary to Gold and the development of posture and carriage for dance, along with the Moves in the Field (Pre Pre to Juvenile) and Freeskating (Pre Pre through Pre Juvenile).

Sara Rutz—$10

Sara is a member of the Copper Country Skating Academy coaching staff. She has been coaching skating for 15 years. She is the former director of the Michigan Tech Learn to Skate Program and Summer Skating School and has worked with skaters of all ages and levels. Sara earned a degree in Elementary Education from Alma College and currently teaches at Houghton Elementary School.

Jane Summersett—$15

Jane Summersett represented Team USA nationally and internationally in Ice Dance for 6 seasons. She also represented Team USA in the Junior Grand Prix circuit, Senior Grand Prix circuit, NHK and over 9 countries. Her teaching qualifications include Senior Moves, Senior Freestyle, Gold Dance, International Dance, Canadian Gold Dance, and Senior Free Dance.

Payment in full is due at the time of registration. Refunds will be issued for medical reasons only. A doctor's note must be presented.
