Rock Climbing Classes

 

Registration and payment can be completed online, by phone at 906-487-2073, or at the SDC Ticket Office. A parent or guardian must sign a SDC waiver of liability, OAP waiver and concussion awareness form prior to participation. You will receive an admission ticket to present to your instructor on the first day of class.

Join the Outdoor Adventure Program as they teach the basics of rock climbing to youth and adults ages 5 and up. Class size is limited.

SDC Climbing Wall (inside the SDC Multi-Purpose Gym)

Special Requirements

No experience necessary. Wear athletic shoes and comfortable clothing (t-shirt, athletic shorts, etc.). No short shorts. Keep in mind that you will be in a harness. Parents of youth participants under the age of 18 must be present at the first class to receive important information and sign required forms. 

Introduction to Indoor Rock Climbing (Age 9 & under)

Join the Outdoor Adventure Program as we host a Youth Climbing Class. We will talk about climbing wall safety, equipment use, how and when climbing is appropriate, the difference between indoor and outdoor climbing and more. The first couple sessions will be spent learning and practicing skills, as well as using the bouldering wall to teach moves. The course is structured to include interactive instruction, practice time and belaying time. We encourage parents/guardians to come to the last class and see the progress that has been made.

Introduction to Indoor Rock Climbing (Age 10+)

Looking to get more time on the wall? This class is designed for those who have taken one or more of our classes before or have some previous climbing experience. We will review knots, harnesses and other required equipment, and start to introduce the belaying side of climbing. The course is structured to make the most of each session with bouldering and climbing challenges mixed with belay skills instruction and certification.
